A new Thomas Covenant book by Stephen R. Donaldson came out a little while ago. After reading it, I decided to go back and read the first 6 books. My collection was incomplete, so I went to purchase the 3 that I had lost. No one has them in stock.

I went to my local Barnes and Noble, my normal choice for blowing lots of money on books. They had the first book of the series, Lord Foul’s Bane, but not the others that I am missing, The One Tree and White Gold Wielder. I had them check the other BN locations in town, and no BN had them. Disappointing. I had them place a stock order for it.

So after grabbing some dinner at the Panera Bread Co. at Virginia Center Commons, I whip out my Treo, hit Google local to save me some driving. I called the nearest Borders Books and Music, and they did not have either book I wanted in stock. Continuing to abuse my friend Google, I looked up the phone number for the local Books-A-Million, and asked them for the books. They did not have them in stock. If anyone would have had them in stock, I would have driven there and purchased the books.

Finally, I tried my last resort. I went to my county library. They only had 4 of the 6 books in the original series. Which books did they not have you may ask? It should be obvious by now that they didn’t have the one that I wanted. In fact, they didn’t have either of the two that I was missing.

So now I’m waiting on my local BN to get them in. I fly up to NY on Tuesday morning, and doubt that I’ll get my book by then. Woe is me.

I think I need to create a whine category.
