I suppose that this flash movie is making the rounds. Its funny in a way, but not altogether truthful. It supposes that the POTUS and VPOTUS are profiting personally from this, and that companies like Haliburton are getting everything just because of the Cheney link. Nevermind that they are among the few companies in the world with the resources to do the work.

What bothers me is that we have a large number of people complaining about energy right now, when there have not been any refineries build in 25-years or so–I don’t have the exact number, but its been a long time. Why, might you ask? I don’t know exactly, but I intend to research a little bit. My first guess is that:

  • They are quite expensive to build.
  • No one wants them in their back yard.
  • Oil refineries aren’t green.
  • There are so many environmental regulations surrounding them that I’d hate to have to deal with running one myself.

Mind you that since the latest mergers with Chevron, Exxon, etc. that gasoline has been getting more expensive. I think that has had more to do with rising energy costs than anything else. I don’t have any direct evidence to back it up, mainly because I’m too lazy to go look at the dates and the trends over the year. One of these days.

Well, more Larry-isms or Larry inspired posts to come.
