I work in an industry where I need to know the breakdowns of Internet usage in the US and Europe, broken down by line speed and other demographics. There have not been a lot of good stats about this recently. As I was looking at peragro this morning, I saw an article from Internet World Stats. After browsing a while, I found two things: First, that their data for the US is still 2003; Second is that they either don’t know much about math, or they don’t review anything.
For an example of what not to do, look at http://www.internetworldstats.com/am/us.htm. Scroll down to Table 1, and look at the totals row. They are totalling things that are already totalled! Things like this make me suspect the rest of their claims and conclusions.
I have to wonder how this got published by any commercial entity. I wouldn’t be surprised it if was someone’s blog, but this is just silly.
