I know that this article about resuming aid to the Palenstinians is old news by now–I was going to blog about it Monday, but I got sidetracked.
I usually feel that a democracy is best, but in order to have a functioning democracy, the general population must have a clue. Most Palestinians (not all by a long shot) seems to be missing this key ingredient necessary for self-rule. Voting Hamas into power was a banner moment for them demonstrating their cluelessness.
The consequences for that decision fall upon the Palestinian people’s head. That may not be politically correct, but it is the way it should be. Everyone must pay the piper eventually. However, some of the Palestinians did something smart–they got rid of Hamas, or it could be said Hamas got rid of Fatwah. Either way, it appears that there could actually be two Palestinian states–Gaza and the West Bank. We, as well as most of the rest of the International Community are restoring aid to Abbas and the West Bank. Even Israel may give them the taxes they are owed. This all sounds great, doesn’t it?
What the Palestinians have really done is to show that they are really just interesting in fighting, and if there is no one handy to hate and fight against, they simply manufacture something. The West Bank Palestinians now have their own land area, they have money back for essential services, they have renewed relations with the mainstream International community. I am very interested to see what they do next.
