This story has two attractions for me. The headline was enough for me to get my dumb-ass pen going, but the real question for me was simply this: What is a “hooning offence”?
Google can find articles about hoons and hooning offences, but no real definition. The same with about.com, yahoo and others. Ask.com presented an article that gave examples of hooning offences as “burnouts, excessive noise and street racing.” I don’t know about you, but I feel smarter already.
So on to the dumb-ass part. The teens wreck their Suburu WX. The police said that they knew the driver–they had impounded his car for 48-hours less than two weeks earlier! So these teens, bored at the lack of blood, guts and tears–ok, they had tears, but not much else–ordered takeout. I mean, watching people fight for their life, watching the jaws of life.. come on, this is hungry work! I can’t blame them for being too bored though–there just weren’t enough gibs compared to the First Person Shooter games they play when they aren’t our hooning.
The overly helpful police charged the driver for obstructing justice, and they handcuffed the other 3. I know that a macca is a bad choice for delivery food, but it’s hard to eat them while in handcuffs. What I want to know is why the 5th guy didn’t get cuffed or charged with anything.
So in this case, there is a lot of dumb-ass to go around. The police for releasing the car from impound after repeated reckless driving. The driver for not getting the hint after his car was impounded for 48-hours, and least of all is the other 4 people in the car while this was going on!! They should have been screaming to get out. They’re all dumb-asses.
